LONDON FASHION WEEK: WHERE ALL CREATIVES COLLIDE

London Fashion Week manages to incorporate all creative job roles into one fast-paced, exciting and artistic event. Fashion week regulars POP PR have had their designers showcase their captivating work for many seasons now, and this season brought just as much unrestricted creativity and explosive fashion as any other season. With independent designers relying on the help of their creative teams, fashion week brings together people with a range of different creative skills to produce inspiring and distinctive visual constructions. 

The Clothes

Micol Ragni AW18

Italian designer Micol Ragni presented a futuristic themed collection full of metallic and shiny materials in a nude colour palette. The designs were edgy with thigh-high patent black boots and asymmetrical dresses, creating show-stopping shapes and silhouettes. The futuristic theme continued with Scottish designer Pam Hogg’s collection that used a Goddess concept to create a fun yet elegant pieces that paired opposing textures, bold colours and transparent materials.

DDFC X FAD which comprises of the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC) and the Institute of Luxury, Fashion and Style Dubai (FAD) used an intriguing set of materials and silhouettes when creating a collection that explores the dynamism of women. The collection used space like prints and patterns on winter colours and paired textures to create something spectacular.

Mimi Tran AW18

Mimi Trans collection ‘Snowflake’ took inspiration from freezing arctic weather conditions through a collection of elegant and jewelled evening wear that ranged from short dresses, funky two pieces and long evening gowns.

Malan Breton found inspiration from sources including Edwardian Tarot, Merlin, Chinese astrology and the myth of the four horsemen of the apocalypse when creating his collection. The designs were slick; using patent and shiny materials to produce fitted suits and floor length, one of a kind dresses. The designs included rich regal prints in bold colours, possibly reflecting the Chinese influence and smart, sleek cuts.

The Makeup

INIFD_LST which is made up of The India Based International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and The London School Of Trends (LST) used white paint on the face in the shape of a mask which surrounded bold eye colours including mustard yellow, tropical orange and royal blue.

Stories From Arabia which showcases collections from Arabic designers’ saw Ahmed Albalushi use classic, bold winged eyeliner to create dark, smouldering eyes with nude lips.

Micol Ragni used bold red on the eyes and faces of his models, as well as creating red tribal prints across their cheeks. DDFC X FAD also used bright reds as well as pink on the eyes whilst Pam Hogg decorated models cheeks with rosy pink hues and black hearts.

The Hair

APUJAN’s models paraded down the runway with slicked back hairstyles; sleek top knots and bluntly cut bobs, complementing the smart and graceful designs. This was similar to Indian fashion designer Rocky Stars hair styling which saw models sport smooth and glossy low buns with perfectly straight middle partings.

Pam Hogg celebrated her theme of powerful women through a range of striking hairstyles. The vibrant styles included curly afros, bright red and dazzling platinum locks and stylish buzz cuts.

London Fashion Week is an event for all creatives to get involved in. Although the focus is on each designers’ fashion creations, the event provides those from all industries an opportunity to display their work, practice their craft and network. As well as obvious opportunities for fashion, hair and makeup creatives, LFW is also an ideal event for freelance writers, photographers, videographers and stylists to be creative and expand their portfolios.
